Ten years of the SUP11 City Tour. From those 10, I’m involved 5 of them. Key word for those 10 years is growth. The event, the crew, the organisation and myself grew. The ideas that were written down the last 2-3 years did happend this 10th edition. The 3 biggest were:

  • One big crew boat, a ‘mother ship’ named It Beaken. Where the crew had a place to come home and the athletes were able to mix with their fellow athletes and us.
  • A pro clinic by the top 10 athletes of the world for the local kids. This idea will be worked out for the 11th edition. In order to give the sport their growth from the next generation. Check the invitation that was sent out to all the local schools in Friesland -> invitation.
  • Six Facebook liveshows, like on real television. With a real host Christopher Parker (SUPracer) & co-host Bart de Zwart, guests and a small audience on the ‘mothership’. Thanks to the students of NHL Stenden Hogeschool from Leeuwarden.

Already the day after the finish of the event, I start thinking what will be the improvement for next year. We all do, together with the other boardmembers. Working together on this, makes the event stronger every year.

I can see you thinking, what are the things that will be improved for next year? One thing is for sure, more pro clinics in every city! But I’m also thinking about how to get the kids more involved in the event. This is a difficult one, remember, paddling over 200 km is not an easy job. So is it an idea to get the kids involved the last kilometer for example? Or the last 5, but then on the nose of the board together with their father or mother? We’ll see, we have winter for that! Think about it and make it happen in SUPtember 2019!
